Ward Leslie Byrd

Ward Leslie Byrd, 86 of Worthington passed away on June 21, 2013 at Fairmont General from an extended Illness. He was born on January 13, 1927 in Shinnston, WV the son of the late John Byrd and Laura Barkley Byrd. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen R. Starcher Byrd whom he married on August 25, 1966. He is survived by two sons Kevin Byrd of Worthington; and Mark Glover of Worthington; one daughter, Kim Glover Ice and husband Tom of Carolina; one grandson Jay Ice and wife Amanda of Ida May; one sister Ruth McIntire of New Martinsville; along with several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and wife he is preceded in death by one brother; John Byrd; two sisters Olive Morgan; and Edna Wright; one grandson Jeremy Ice. Ward was a coal miner of 31 ½ years at Robinson Run for Consol Coal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31 of Shinnston, and a Methodist by faith. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Grave side service held Monday June 24, 2013 at Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Brian Plum will be officiating. Full military services will be conducted by Harrison County Color Guard Post 573.
