Ruth Ellen (Hutson) Cottrell

Ruth Ellen Cottrell, 89, of Lumberport, went on to be with the Lord while she was a patient at Fairmont Health and Rehab on October 9, 2019.  She was born in Lumberport on November 02, 1929, the daughter of the late W.R. Ted and Hattie Mae (Lindsey) Hutson.

Ruth was a Sunday school teacher and more recently a homemaker.  She really enjoyed cooking for her large family and was known as the “best cook”.  She was a beautiful singer and loved to sing the Gospel and her favorite song, “Amazing Grace”.  Ruth was with the Carl Beverage Street Ministries singing and playing her guitar. She really enjoyed playing her guitar and even enjoyed teaching others to play.  Ruth was a member of the Bible Baptist Temple and loved flowers and her Dogwood tree.

Those left behind to cherish Ruth’s memory include her three daughters, Carolyne Davis and her husband, Rick of Lumberport, Barbara Hall and her husband, Eugene of Mannington and Linda Rowley and her husband, Douglas of Wausau, WI; one son, Dave Cottrell and his wife, Barbara of Clarksburg; two brothers, Frank Hutson and his wife, Judy of Minster, Ohio and Rusty Hutson, Sr. and his wife Shirley of Lumberport; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 13 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Russell Cottrell; one brother, Ted Hutson, Jr.; and one sister, Lorraine Yeater.

Ruth was a beautiful soul and was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted mother and best friend to many.  Ruth was the most forgiving woman that her family has ever known.  She will be sadly missed.

The family will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 South Pike St., Shinnston, WV 26431, on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 2:00-8:00PM.  A Funeral Service will be held at Dorsey Funeral Home on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00am with Pastor Chuck Madaus officiating.  Interment will follow at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery.
