John Wesley Tichnell, 83, of Enterprise, passed on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at his residence. He was born on October 26, 1939 to the late Floy Wilbur Tichnell and Ida Mae “Echard” Tichnell.
John served in the United States Navy. He was an electrician in the coal mines for Consol and worked for Pittsburgh Plate. He was a member of American Legion Post 31. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He boxed while in the US Navy. John loved his grandchildren and was a very giving person.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Lee “O’Dell” Tichnell; five sons and their families: Richard Tichnell of Fairmont and his daughter, Jamie Hollandsworth; David Tichnell and wife Jennifer of Haywood and their children: Chris Tichnell, Fallon Owens and Chase Tichnell; Jeffrey “Jeff” Tichnell and wife Tracie of Shinnston and their children: Danielle Baker and Lindsey Blake; Michael Tichnell and wife Chrystal of Shinnston and their children: Taylor Tichnell and Mickaylyn Runner and Timothy Tichnell and wife Mariya of Enterprise and their children: Raelynn Tichnell, Gavin Mullens and Sawyer Mullens.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. He was the last surviving member of his family.
In keeping with John’s wishes, he will be cremated.
Family and friends will be received for A Celebration of Life service at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 11:00am until time of service, 1:00pm with Pastor Brian Plum officiating. Inurnment to follow at Enterprise IOOF Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy and Harrison County Honor Guard.
