James "Jim" Henry Myers

James Henry “Jim” Myers, 85, of Lumberport, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at his residence.  He was born on February 15, 1937 in Weston to the late Elmer Dale Myers and Florence Katherine Lough Myers.

Jim began grade school at Kitzenville Elementary School in Weston in 1943 and graduated from Moundsville High School in 1955.  He served in the United States Army from 1960-1963.

Jim had previously been employed by WV Flat Glass in Weston, WV, Ingersoll-Rand Company for many years and retired from the WV Board of Education as a school bus driver.  During retirement, he also drove bus for Mother Gooseland.

Jim’s interests included stories about his many residences, growing up on farms in West Virginia and he loved to play piano, guitar and violin.  Jim was a Christian by faith.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Riffle Myers, whom he married in 1963; three daughters:  Suzanne Hartman of Elkins, Amanda Myers of Elkins, and Karla Amato and husband Mike of Bedford, PA; one son, James S. Myers and wife Robin of Lumberport; three grandsons:  Maxwell and Bryson Myers of Lumberport and Frank Amato and wife Kelsey of Woodbridge, VA; one granddaughter, Grace Anne Amato of Bedford, PA; a brother in law and good friend, Kenneth Godfrey of Jane Lew; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by three brothers:  Garry Myers, Russell Myers and Larry Myers and one sister, Judith Myers Riffle.

A special “Thank you” to the Amedisys Hospice and VA Hospital doctors and nurses, and to Chaplain Jerome Lewis of the VA Hospital.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 11:00am at the WV National Cemetery in Grafton with Chaplain Jerome Lewis officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Harrison County Honor Guard.
