Harland "Butch" Eugene Hardesty

Harland Eugene “Butch” Hardesty, Jr., 63, of Lumberport, WV, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at home surrounded by his loved ones for the last days of his life.  Butch was born on April 5, 1958 in Clarksburg, WV.  The son of the late Harland “Skip” Hardesty and Wilma Bevlin Hardesty of Lumberport, WV. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Janie Sampson Hardesty.  He is also survived by his sons; Daniel Hardesty and wife Jennifer Hardesty and their children, Trenton, Gracie and Clay of Lumberport, WV and Eric Hardesty and wife Jasmine Hardesty and their daughters, Avery and Ellie, also of Lumberport, WV.  Butch had a soft spot for his grandchildren, who will always love and remember their “Pap.” Also surviving; his loving sister Ernestine “Ernie” Hardesty and husband Ronnie Ash of Bridgeport, WV. His Uncle Ronnie Bevlin and wife Carol of Pennsylvania, Uncle Willard Bevlin and wife Linda of Morgantown, WV, Uncle Ronald Hardesty and his Aunt Lucille Strait, both of Shinnston, WV. As well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Viola Bevlin and paternal grandparents, James and Edna Hardesty. 

Butch graduated from Lumberport High School in 1976, where he was an outstanding football, baseball, and basketball player.  Butch was an avid hunter.  He often spent his free time hunting with his life long friends, Melvin Howe and the late James “Monroe” Tasker. 

Butch worked at Repair King for the last 30 years welding and fabricating mining equipment. He was a born again Christian and attended Jones Run Church. 

Butch will be dearly missed.  His memory will be carried on by the loved ones he has left behind, until we meet again.

Family will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 S. Pike St., Shinnston, WV, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm.  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11am with Pastor Willard Bevlin officiating.  Interment to follow at Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery.
