Frederick Alan Sandy

FRED'S DEAD! On Tuesday, October 13, 2020, Frederick Alan Sandy, 62, passed away in his home. Fred was born in Mannington, WV to Ellis (Brud) and Bernadette Sandy.

Fred was a graduate of Shinnston High School. He served in the United States Army for four years, owned Sandy’s Drywall, then retired from Lowe’s. He recently got to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling across the United States. On Memorial Day weekend, he loaded up and hit the road. Some of his favorite destinations on this journey led him to the Grand Canyon, Mt. Rushmore, the Painted Desert, and Noah’s Ark. From there he continued on to Niagara Falls, to Ohio to be with his kids, a long visit with his aunt and cousins in North Carolina, then to see the beautiful fall leaves of Maine. His final journey was through the country roads of the West Virginia mountains on his way home.

If you needed help, he was there.  He’d give you money, a place to sleep, or a laugh. He had the kindest heart and could make anyone smile with one of his corny jokes. He never knew a stranger.  Fred loved spending time with his family. He could be seen running around town with his nephew, Jeremy and Jeremy’s wife, Claire; shopping the Goodwill with his beloved daughter, Tracy, cracking jokes and or doting on his precious granddaughter, Amelia. 

Fredrick is survived by three daughters; Jessica Wagner, husband Keith of Clarksburg, Norma Sandy of Burton, Ohio, Tracy Sandy of Garrettsville, OH, one son Patrick Sandy of Warren, Ohio, one granddaughter Amelia Wagner, three sisters: Barbara Cook of Fairmont, Linda Lanham, husband Timmy, Karen Waddell, husband Robert, special nephew Jeremy Massey, wife Claire all of Shinnston, and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, four aunts; Geneva Lemasters, Cecilia Lemasters, Rose Tromp, Dorothy Sholtz and the mother of his children Ana Brown.

Family will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home 701 South Pike Street, Shinnston, WV on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 11AM until time of service at 2PM with speaker Samuel Massey. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery. Dorsey Funeral is honored to be serving the Sandy family.
