Rev. Dewain L. "Pap" Herrod, 89, of Marshville Community went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at United Hospital Center. He was born in Marshville, WV on October 16, 1923 the son of the late Ora Lee Herrod and Valley Mae Thompson Herrod. On October 23, 1942, he was united in marriage to Wilma Mae Shaffer Herrod who preceded him in death February 16, 2011.They were the parents of four children, Rev. Stanley Lee Herrod and wife Sylviann of Rock Camp Road; Paul L. Herrod and wife, Sharon, Rickey D. Herrod and wife Beth and Cheryl C. Swiger, all of Marshville; fifteen grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; one sister, Lois Whiteman, Green Bag, MD. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Lee Swiger, three grandchildren and nephew Jimmy Herrod, one sister and five brothers. Dewain graduated from Bristol High School, worked timber and the saw mill for many years. He was very active in the ministry over the years, teaching Sunday school and a deacon of the church at Open Door Tabernacle. He was also the minister at Chiefton Chapel Baptist Church for several years and minister for forty five years total. Family and friends may call at Greathouse Funeral Home, Rt 1 Box 59 Salem, on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 2-8 PM; funeral service at Greathouse Funeral Home, Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Rev Stanley Herrod and Rev Denver Burnside officiating.
