Dearl Gene Mayfield

May 8, 1936 ~ May 23, 2021 (age 85)


Dearl Gene Mayfield, 85, of Wallace, WV passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Pleasant Acres Christian Haven Nursing Home.  Dearl was born in Idamay, WV on May 8, 1936, the son of the late Gleedis Mayfield and Freda (Malson) Mayfield.Surviving Dearl is his wife, Joan Frances (Ogden) Mayfield whom he married on May 29, 1954.  Two daughters, Connie Mayle of Wallace, WV and Cindy Davis and husband Monty of Wallace, WV.  One son, Jerry Mayfield and wife Tracy of Wallace, WV.  One granddaughter, Nica Blocker and husband Jeff.  Six grandsons; Brandon Davis, Corey Lockhart, Cody Lockhart, Caleb Swiger, Randyn Collins and Lakota Mayfield. One sister-in-law, Pat Mayfield of Canton, OH.  Three great granddaughters;  Hunter Collins, Brayli Kay Lockhart and Millee Davis.  Five great grandsons; Gabe Lockhart, Gadrian Lockhart, Grady Davis, Brady Swiger and Krew Swiger. Two sisters-in-law; Hedy Belknap of Huntington, WV and Barbara Berry of Sneeds Ferry, NC.  Also, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.In addition to his parents, Dearl was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Swiger.  Two sisters and brothers-in-law; Naomi and Tom Cunningham and Peggy and Gene Hess.  One brother, David Mayfield. Two brothers-in-law, Fred Belknap and Fred Berry.Three nephews and one great niece.Dearl worked at the Spelter Zinc Plant from 1958-1973.  He then worked as an electrician for Dominion Gas from 1973-1994, from which he retired.Dearl was a US Veteran, having served in the Air Force.Dearl enjoyed time with his family.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling, boating and camping. At the request of the family, private graveside services will be held at the Robinson Cemetery in Wallace, WV with Martha Holbert officiating.Dorsey Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements for the Mayfield family.
