Willis Perrine Obituary

Willis Perrine passed on to his Heavenly Father on February 17, 2019, at Meadowview Manor in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

Willis was born September 8, 1926, in Cox’s Mills, Gilmer County, West Virginia, the son of the late Wesley and Della (Titus) Perrine.

He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Lenora June (Crawford) Perrine; one son, Willis Perrine, Jr. and his wife, Crystal of Morgantown; one daughter, Saundra Holepit and her husband, Eddie of Morgantown; two grandsons, Edward L. Holepit and his wife, Jena of Virginia & Michael W. Holepit and his wife, Shae of Bridgeport; two great-grandsons, Ethan Holepit and Aiden Elder; two great-granddaughters, Ava Marie Holepit and Abby Springer; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Willis worked for 18 years at the Dupont Plant in Spelter as a foreman.  Then he retired as a pumper from Pennzoil after 15 years with the company.  Willis served his country in the US Army 7th Calvary during World War II.  He was deployed to the Philippine Islands until the end of the war and then served in the Occupation of Japan.  After re-enlisting in the Army for the Korean Conflict, Willis was severely wounded when his Jeep was hit by a tank landmine.  Willis was awarded three Bronze Stars for his bravery and the Purple Heart medal.  Willis enjoyed many things including being a member of the Stonewood Horseshoe League and the American Legion Post 31.  He especially enjoyed spending time with family.   

In addition to his parents, Willis was preceded in death by his five brothers, Clemeth, Emmeth, William “Bill”, Ferrell and Louis “Louie” Perrine and one sister, Ruby Titus.  Willis was the last surviving member of his family.

The family will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 South Pike Street, Shinnston, WV 26431, on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM.  A funeral service will be held at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 South Pike Street, Shinnston, WV 26431, on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Duane Bartrug and Pastor Eric Miker officiating.  Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Mt. Clare, WV.
