Shirley S. Traugh, age 81, of Shinnston passed away on July 15, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 13, 1938 in Copen, WV, the son of the late Nay and Snowy Dolphin “Dolly” (Underwood) Traugh.
Shirley was a cook in the National Guard of West Virginia and as a Reserve of the United States Army. He also served in the United States Navy. Then on July 15, 1957, Shirley married the love of his life, Antionette. They would have celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary today.
Shirley is survived by his wife of 62 years, Antionette (Castranova) Traugh; one son, Michael Anthony Traugh and his wife, Callie of Proctorville, Ohio; one daughter, Shirley Annette Demary of Chandler, AZ; one sister, Thelma Patterson of Spelter; three step-grandchildren, Josh Helmick, Candice Stewart and her husband, Kevin and Jenny Smallwood and her husband, Jeremy; two step great-grandchildren, Ezekiel & Luke Stewart; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Shirley was preceded in death by five brothers, Sherman, Charles, Bob, Ralph and Jake Traugh; and one sister, Helen Seiford.
Shirley worked as a laborer for Birdwell in Clarksburg. A Division of Seismograph Services Cooperation in Oklahoma. He also worked for the Harrison County Animal Control.
Some of Shirley’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, working in his garden and playing Bingo. He loved spending time with his family. Shirley was a Catholic by faith.
Per Shirley’s request, he will be cremated with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.
