Patricia "Pat" Wray Obituary

Patricia “Pat” Ann (West) Wray, 81, passed from this life at 3am on April 18, 2018 in Monongah, WV.   She was born on January 11, 1937 at Zeising, WV, the eldest child of the late Cashuss Wade and Ruby Dale (Sturm) West.

Immediately after Pat graduated from Victory High School with the class of 1954, she was employed by the State of WV in Charleston, WV.  She then enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX where she met and married her husband, Carl Wray.  Most of Pat’s adult life was spent in Huntington, WV where she worked many jobs to support her six children.  Pat loved country and gospel music and in her younger years she loved to dance.  She was an avid sports fan and was knowledgeable about many sports.  Her nickname was “Carla Kodak” for the many pictures she took and shared with family.

Pat is survived by three sons, Richard Wray and his wife Diane of Fairmont, WV; David Wray and his wife Kimberly of Lumberport, WV and Carl Wray and his wife Gretchen of Huntington, WV.   She is also survived by her daughter Cathy (Wray) Garner of Huntington, WV and by sisters, Penny Kittle and Maxine Weser and her brother Willard West.  Grandchildren are Josh Wray, Jared Wray, Amanda (Wray) Rogers, David Wray, Matt Wray, Elizabeth (Wray) Hoover, John Wray, Michael Wray, Brandon Garner and Brad Garner. Great-grandchildren are Jonathan and Ryan Leep, Landon Hoover, Audra Rogers, Carson Wray, Jaylynne Garner, Audrey Garner, Trinity Wray and Nora Wray.  Pat is also survived by her life-long friends Hilda (Walls) Stallman and Marie (Cain) Swiger.

Preceding Pat in death were her son Randy Wray and daughter Debra Wray, sister Peggy Ayers, brother Greg West and her parents Cashuss and Ruby West.  She was the first grandchild of her late grandparents Tom and Nora West of Lucas Mill, WV. She and her cousin Tom West were doted on by them.

Pat had recently been a resident of St. Barbara’s Nursing Home in Monongah, WV.  The family wants to thank the nursing home for the excellent and loving care she received while there.  Her wishes were for direct cremation with no viewing or services.  Pat’s final resting place will be by her daughter Debra in Kenova, WV.
