Joan Whiteman

Joan Whiteman (72) of Shinnston, WV passed away on Saturday March 24, 2018 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV.

Joan was born February 2, 1946 in Clarksburg, WV the daughter of the late Wilson Junior Currence and Bettie Ann Lewis Robey.

Joan was a graduate of Lumberport High School. She worked as a sales clerk for Hill’s Department Store, a server at Sisler’s Hotdogs, was a Tutor for the Harrison County School Board, and was an Avon Representative. She was also a member of the Shinnston’s Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered her time at the Senior Citizen’s Center.  Joan was a member of the Lumberport United Methodist Church and later became a member of the Coon's Run Baptist Church in Shinnston, WV. 

In addition to her parents Joan was preceded in death by; her step- father Hubert Ralph Robey, one sister Geraldine L. Locke, six step-brothers; Gary Whiteman, Richard Whiteman, Arthur Whiteman, David Whiteman & Marvin Whiteman, paternal grandparents Clarence and Nellie(Stotts) Currence, maternal grandparents Orville and Ada Lee Whiteman, eight uncles and aunts and one nephew.

Those left behind to cherish Joan’s memory are: two brothers Gary Robey & wife Katherine, WV Danny R. Robey all of Lumberport, WV, one sister Lindy Ellison and husband Eugene of Beckley, WV, one step-sister Sue Moxey of Dunkirk, MD, one step-sister-in-law Hilda Whiteman of Morgantown, WV, one uncle Joe Currence of Midlothian, VA, one aunt Cathy Currence Baker of Girdletree, MD, and several nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home 701 South Pike St., Shinnston, WV. 26431 on Wednesday March 28, 2018 from 11:00am-1:00pm time of service with Reverend Sonny Palmer officiating.

Interment will be at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery, Lumberport, WV.

Per the family’s request memorial donations can be made to Dorsey Funeral Home in Joan’s name to help defray her final needs expenses.
