Mavis Johnson Obituary

Mavis V. Johnson, 101, of Clarksburg, WV passed away at Bridgeport Health Care Center on Thursday, December 2, 2021.  She was born July 10, 1920 in Clarksburg, WV, daughter of the late Roy E. Cain and Ila Reager Cain Ash.

Mavis is survived by three daughters:  Maureen Whitehair Copeland of Pennsboro, WV; Cherie (Thom) Alonso of Shinnston, WV; and Cathy Baker of Clarksburg, WV; six grandchildren:  Pamela (Steve) Cain of Jacksonville, FL; Lilly Whitehair (companion Bret Francisco) of Parkersburg, WV; Robert D.  (Tonya) Whitehair of Charleston, WV; Carmen Baker of Clarksburg, WV; Melissa Jewell of Greer, SC and Maranie (Chien) Lin of Columbus, OH; thirteen great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; half-sisters:  Patty Stalnaker, Carol Sue Kearney, and Sandra Richards.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mack McCray; son Eric McCray; sister, Martha M. Swiger; stepfather, Chester L. Ash; granddaughter, Mavis Ann Ross; son in law, Bob Whitehair and stepsisters:  Ruth Ellen Cain, Freda Lou Riley, Betty Stanley, Elaine Currey, and Pam Tabor; stepbrothers:  Roger Cain and Raymond Cain, all from Clarksburg, WV; and grandparents:  William and Lilly Douglas Cain and Clarksburg businessman T.J. Reager and Carrie Allen Reager, with whom she resided with until the age of 19. 

She retired as a Nursing Assistant in Anaheim, CA.  She loved her family, cats and flowers.  Mavis enjoyed writing poetry.

She was a Protestant by faith. 

Victory High School class of 1939.

Per her request, there will be no visitation.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Harrison County, Inc. 2450 Saltwell Rd., Shinnston, WV  26431-7385

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Greenlawn Cemetery with Pastor Tim Sandy officiating.
